Dinner, Friends + A Recipe

Pin It Now!
Tuesday evening we were so blessed by some very sweet friends of ours. They had us over for the most delicious supper and dessert, but most importantly, great fellowship.

To give you a little background, we have known this family for about 16 years. We have watched their two babes grow into beautiful young women. It is always such a treat to spend time with them, because even though we don't see each other often enough {darn those busy schedules} every time we meet it's just as good as the last time.

As soon as we stepped onto their back deck the Mr. and I started joking that we felt like we were transported to a resort. The presentation felt extra special.

It was the perfect night to relax with some lemonade or iced tea and chat. We showed them how to make the Mr.'s favorite summer drink, an Arnold Palmer. They had never heard of it! For those of you who haven't either, it's simply half lemonade and half iced tea. It's yummy.

The Mr. was in charge of grilling kabobs. These were the most delicious kabobs on the face of the earth, guys. That's a promise.

{I'm salivating. Gross, but true.}

We also had a garden salad. No, a literal garden salad; everything straight out of their summer garden. It was perfect.

Not pictured is perfect jasmine rice. It was so great in fact that I had her email me the recipe. You bet I'm kind enough to share it with you, too!

For dessert we had this little beauty. Well we as in everyone, but the Mr. He can pass up sweets like no other. Something is wrong with him. We are working tirelessly to figure it out.

After supper we walked around their house to admire their garden and landscaping. Then we hit a volleyball around in their front yard until after 9pm. I realized how much I still love the sport even though I haven't played since high school.  We are working on putting a team together. No joke.

We were so blessed with 3 1/2 hours of pure fun with them. After we left I texted them to say thank you just one more time. She told me her daughter said it was the best night of her summer. I think we all agreed.

They sent us home with some garden veggies and a jar of their homemade pickles. It was a night of blessings upon blessings. Which reminds me. I need to drop a thank you card in the mail. Just to let them know again, how great they are.

I hope you have been blessed this summer with some special memories made with extra special people in your lives. Treasure them. These kind of folks are few and far between.

Jasmine Rice

1 cup jasmine rice
2 cups water
3-4 tablespoons butter
dash of olive oil
2-3 teaspoons Orrington Farms vegetable broth powder

Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir and serve.

Enjoy!
