Friday's Letters

Pin It Now!
{the sweet boys I have been a nanny to for almost 4 years}

Dear Life, we are in somewhat of a transition and if I think about it too long or too hard it's a bit scary. Luckily for us we have God to cling to. And boy oh boy am I hanging on...tight. Dear Boys, today is our last day together as your nanny. Bittersweet is the only word I can use to describe what I am feeling. Yesterday I made a special photo scrapbook of all the fun times we have shared together recently. I laughed and cried at the same time. I hope someday you will treasure it as much as I do. Dear Mr., this weekend we are celebrating SIX years of marriage. Please help me figure out a way to slow down time so we can enjoy each other even longer. I love you and can't wait for the years to come. Dear God, I have been singing You Are For Me countless times because, well, I just can't stop. What a joy it is to worship you.

Pin It Now!
Life 6 years ago looked something like this...

 {cake smash kiss at our wedding reception}

Life 1 year ago looked something like this...

 These photos were taken in Delray Beach, Florida where we were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary. We were blessed to be able to stay at one of the city's finest hotels; The Seagate Hotel and Spa. It was the Mr.'s idea to hire a photographer to capture some photos of us as a keepsake of our trip there.

I'm so glad we did.

I'd love to hear about any special memories you are remembering today!

Wordless Wednesday {A Dad + His Gals}

Pin It Now!

Even though it's Wordless Wednesday I can't leave without saying a few words about this photo. It was snapped this past weekend in Chicago
{A Chicago post is coming, promise.}

I love this picture for many reasons, but mostly because it shows just how much we look like our father. Love.

I Color My Grays

Pin It Now!

 gray, adj.

1. of a color between white and black; having a neutral hue.
2. dark, dismal, or gloomy; gray skies.
3. dull, dreary, or monotonous
4. having gray hair; gray-headed.
5. pertaining to old age; mature.
{definition taken from}
Several years ago I started coloring my hair...for fun. To add some depth, shine, low lights, a richer hue if you will. However, for the last few years I have colored my hair to hide a few grays I've found lurking.
You know the saying, "for every gray hair you pluck, two will grow in its place"? Yeah, that. It's true. So instead of plucking those suckers I kill em with color.

Last night was most recent night they died were colored, as well as cut, about 2+ inches to be somewhat exact. Here, have a looksie. I'm loving the color, but the verdict is still out on the cut. I miss my long hairs, yes hairs.

Side note: Do you spell it gray or grey? I think I interchange the two as I have not yet decided 26 years into my life which way I want to spell it.

Playing Catch Up

Pin It Now!
We are back from the Chicago Trip, Summer 2012 and boy am I exhausted. Today was spent catching up before the week gets away from me, hence the lack of a post today.

I have lots of pictures to share of all our adventures, but that's going to have to wait for another day.  Tomorrow maybe?

Till then, friends.

Friday's Letters

Pin It Now!

Dear fellow Wisconsinites, my sister tweeted at you this week, "To all my Wisconsinites struggling in this heat wave, remember when we asked for this in the middle of winter and 93* was all we wanted!". Seriously, it's summer friends. Get outside and enjoy it or stay inside where it's cool. It's pretty simple. Dear Honey Flower Fur Baby Sugar Boy, Mama is in Chicago and missing you like crazy cakes! See, I didn't forget to call you by a few of your favorite nicknames. Someday soon I'm going to make a post of all the nicknames we call you by, all 27 of them so we can always remember how silly we are. Dear Mr., when we go on vacation together I am reminded how much I would love to spend every single minute of every single day together. Unfortunately, that's not real life, so I'll just soak it up. Dear Bree, I wish everyone had a sister like you. You seriously make me laugh so hard. Our text conversation on Tuesday was the funniest ever. So glad I have you in my life! Dear God, I am so thankful for the family and friends you have placed in my life. Thanks for caring about the things in my life that I care about.

Ear Candling 101

Pin It Now!

Last week I posted this picture {in a weekend recap photo collage}, snapped by the Mr. while I was ear candling. Ear candling is something I have done for most of my childhood and into my adult life. I introduced the Mr. to it when we first started dating 8 years ago and since then we've done it a handful of times.

The benefits we see to ear candling are that it is a safe, homeopathic way to clean wax out of the ear. We use a hollow, cone like tube made of fabric, coated in beeswax.We purchased these specific ones at a local health foods store for $3 a piece. The end that is lit uses heat which acts like a vacuum to siphon the softened wax out of the ear. It's like spring cleaning...for the ear.

{pretend you don't see the celebratory pennant banner that still hangs 1 month after the Mr.'s graduation luncheon}

 Here is the fun part.
Or the gross part.
Whichever way you wish to see it.
Cutting the candle open to see how much fungus ear wax is inside.

{the goods}

Have you ever ear candled? I'd love to hear about it!

Ear candling is somewhat of a controversial topic. The opinions on this blog are my own and not a professional or medical opinion. Please do your own research to determine whether or not ear candling is right for you.

That Time I Went Golfing...

Pin It Now!

Last week the Mr., my sister Bree, and some other friends went on a spontaneous golf outing. As in a Par 3 course. Not your run of the mill miniature golf scenario. This was my first time golfing. Same with Bree. I went in with an open mind, kind of expecting to really stink at driving a tiny little white ball with numerous divots 146 yards that-a-way.

I was up first to swing. I took a few practice swings after a good lesson from the Mr. and what do you know? That little white ball mentioned above went sailing {in my humble opinion} straight towards the hole. Everyone, including myself fell backwards in amazement was shocked at my natural, God given ability. Insert humble opinion.

The Mr. and I have found a new hobby to enjoy together and I honestly can't wait to go again.We laughed together. Encouraged each other. Had a blast together. Then we laughed so hard we I almost peed my pants. Now I need to buy myself some pink balls. You know, the ones with the numerous divots in them that I can apparently make sail across the golf course.

Enjoy some sweet photos snapped by my one and only, the Mr. Pretty soon I'm going to have to start calling him my photographer or giving him photo credits.

Fro-Yo Pops!

Pin It Now! As a nanny I am always on the look out for fun, sugar-less treats for the kiddos. I came across a similar idea on Pinterest and had to try it. I call them ice cream pops to tease their toddler minds, but in all reality they are frozen yogurt fruit pops.

Fro-Yo Pops

Here is what you'll need if you want to make this yummy, summer treat for your kids, someone else's kids, your husband who is a kid at heart, or for yourself!

Popsicle Molds
{I picked these up at Target a couple summers ago for cheap}

Yogurt with fresh fruit added
{strawberry yogurt with fresh blackberries}

{lemon yogurt with fresh blueberries}

{raspberry yogurt with fresh raspberries}

What better way to enjoy a hot summer day than with these delicious and healthy fro-yo pops?
If you try them let me know how much you enjoy them!

Friday's Letters

Pin It Now!

Dear Friday, thank you for coming so quickly! It's always good to see you because then it means your cousin Saturday stops by next. Shhhh, don't tell, but I think he's my favorite. Dear Fur Baby, I loved sharing this ice cream cone with you after daddy's softball game. A&W root beer cone for the win. Dear Readers, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sweet comments this past week. You guys rock! Dear Mr., yesterday you had 3 cavities filled at the Dentist's office. Let's not do that anytime soon. I could think of a bazillion few things I would rather spend $560.00 on. I still love you. Dear God, you never cease to amaze me with your unending love and compassion. Thanks for that, and help me to show the same love and compassion to others.

Ready. Set. Go.

Pin It Now! Hello everyone!

Today my mind is all over the place. I have a long to do list for Chicago and a much shorter amount of time to get everything done.

You see, Chicago Trip, Summer 2012 is right around the corner and there is much to prepare. For starters, we are having a friend dog sit at our home for the Fur Baby while we are gone. Don't even mention the word anxiety to me. Just remind me to cast my cares. There is much to be done before we up and drive thousands hundreds between 100 and 200 miles away. I'll show you what I mean.

Welcome to all the thoughts I have right this very moment in regards to Chicago:
  • Organize all closets and dresser drawers in case dog sitter friend gets curious {you all know you would do the same}
  • Prepackage all the Fur Baby's meals
  • Leave WI-FI password, Netflix password, house key, garage door opener, and veterinary contact information for said dog sitter friend
  • Write a thank you card {with cash inside} for dog sitter
  • Bathe the Fur Baby so he is less of a grease monkey {only his mama likes his greasy ear hairs}
  • Clean the house
  • Wash our bedding
  • Pack for the Mr.
  • Pack for myself {ugh, what to wear? I want some new outfits.}
  • Remember toll money, GPS, and address of our destination
  • Buy a new Brewer shirt for the Mr. and remember to pack mine for a Brewers' game in Chicago
  •  Pray, Pray, Pray that all goes smoothly and that I don't forget a darn thing!
  • And lastly, pack a photo of the Fur Baby so I can stare at him while we're apart

Perhaps this one

Wordless Wednesday {Breakfast Picnic}

Pin It Now!

Thanks to the Mr. for making us breakfast this morning and for joining me on the patio to get in some sunshine and conversation before most humans are even out of bed.

The only thing missing was an iced mocha with almond milk.
Next time.

Show + Tell Vlog

Pin It Now!

 Today I bring you my first ever vlog. Please bear with me as it was incredibly awkward for me to talk into the camera. After showing the Mr. the vlog he said I wasn't my true self until I was talking to the Fur Baby. So, just a heads up! I will get better with practice.

After many takes, and much anxiety on my part, I give to you my Show + Tell Vlog; lots of tell, not so much show.

The seven questions I answered:
1. Show us your favorite pair of shoes
2. A piece of jewelry that you wear every day
3. Show your favorite hair product of all time
4. Your favorite app
5. Your favorite food in your pantry
6. Something you recently purchased.
7. Your favorite accessory

What A Weekend

Pin It Now!
I'm enjoying a quiet Monday morning here today. Truthfully, those are the best kinds of Mondays after a full weekend. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

1. Saturday morning we attended a High School Graduation Party, brunch style. What a genius idea. The spread included strawberries, grapes, blueberries, donut holes, danishes, muffins, yogurt, and assorted beverages displayed in darling drink dispensers.

2. The Mr. snapped this photo of me at brunch. I was probably mid-chew, that's usually how that goes. In the background, which is hard to see, there is a gazebo and one {of many} sweet little umbrellas to shade a table from the blazing 85 degree sunshine that morning.

3. This weekend our city held an annual festival at one of our parks. These are their famous cheese curds. Gooey, hot, greasy perfection! We have to share a basket of them because you only need a few to get your fill.

4. The second Graduation Party we attended had a bounce house, not to mention the delicious Qdoba that was catered for lunch.

5. Ear candling. Something we try to do once a year for optimal ear health. That came out a little nerdy. Any who, some of you may not know much about this so I am planning on writing a post soon describing what it is and the benefits of it.

This just about sums up our weekend. While it was full, it was fun and we sure are blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Friday's Letters

Pin It Now!

Dear Blog, we're on this new adventure together and I think I love you, but at the same time you have me feeling anxious, excited, and nervous. Dear Mr., thank you for being the most supportive hubby a woman could ask for. You go above and beyond and continually amaze me! {P.S. I love this picture of you from last weekend.} Dear Chicago, we will be visiting you in t-minus 12 days and we are, how do I say it...ECSTATIC! Dear Weather, please continue to douse us with this wonderful sunshine all weekend long. You see, we have lots of outdoor plans and kind of need your cooperation in this matter. Dear God, thank you for the little things in life that I sometimes take for granted, I truly am grateful.

A Higher Calling

Pin It Now! I had another post in mind for today, but sometimes there is something more important to write about. Something that you want to look back on and relive.

Hopefully from the Mr.'s bio you've learned that he is the Youth Director at our church. Every Wednesday night we meet with Junior High and Senior High young adults for youth group. Our youth worship band leads us in praise and worship and typically the Mr. dives right into a message. Then afterwards we play ping pong, shoot pool, throw a football, kick a soccer ball, or just sit down and chat in the cafe. It's good. It's wonderful really. Last night was a different story. Last night was extra powerful.

After the first song, Our God was finished, I felt really impressed to share something God laid on my heart. I asked them, "What if I told you we had ice cream sundaes in the cafe for everyone; toppings like hot fudge, caramel, and cherries?" Their response, as you can imagine any youth's response was, "Yeah!"and "I want one". There were even a few cheers. The next question had a much more riveting response. When asked if that ice cream created them or died for them they were left speechless. They were encouraged last night to worship with an even greater enthusiasm than they had for the ice cream sundaes. Needless to say it set the tone for an amazing night of worship. There were tears, heartfelt youth in worship, and a youth leading another one in a prayer to receive Jesus. I was left with an overwhelming feeling of God's love, His goodness, and His compassion.

 It was a night I will never forget. I am so humbled that God chose me to be along side the Mr. in youth ministry. As I remain a willing vessel for Him to use and continue to be obedient when He nudges me to speak I know we will continue to see the fruit that we saw last night.

Albeit a heavy topic, sometimes it's important to take a break from all the fun, all the material stuff, and refocus on what is truly important in life.

{If you have any questions about who this Jesus is that I'm talking about I'd love to share with you. Feel free to comment or email me at brittany (dot) thisbeautifullife (at) gmail (dot) com.}

Weekend Recap

Pin It Now! This weekend we celebrated my sister's 23rd birthday! Since we live in the great state of Wisconsin we took full advantage of an outing to Miller Park to watch the Brewers and celebrate her big day.

In order to make sure we celebrated Bree's 23rd birthday in style we had a Cadillac Escalade Limo chauffeur us to the game. After the initial shock and embarrassment of traveling in such a glamorous ride wore off we had a blast!

Here we are 4th row up from left field, right where all the teenage girls apparently like to sit to watch Ryan Braun.

The rest of our weekend was spent catching rays, attending an amazing event in our town called God of This City, where our youth worship band played, eating way too much delicious food at a graduation party (the first of many this summer), and basking outside with the pup!

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a post on "a few of my favorite things".
